Tarot explained

Tarot cards consist of a deck of 78 cards, each with its own unique symbolism, imagery, and story. The cards have two parts: the Major Arcana and the Minor Arcana.

In the Major Arcana, the first 22 cards represent archetypal journeys in life. Each card connects with a particular theme, such as The Fool, The Magician, The Lovers, The Sun, and The World.

In the Minor Arcana, 56 cards split into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Each suit contains 14 cards with their own individual meaning.

History of Tarot

tarot+history

Tarot cards have a long and complex history dating back to the 15th century. During this time, they were used as a form of divination by nomadic Romani peoples in Europe. It has since evolved over the centuries, with various interpretations of its symbolism and meanings.

Throughout the 18th century, French occultists such as Eliphas Levi began to explore tarot links to mysticism and the Kabbalah. He mapped the 22 cards of the Major Arcana to the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet in a book he wrote.

Fast-forward to modern times, and people now turn to tarot for self-reflection and spiritual development.

How Can Tarot Cards Help Us?

Tarot cards invite you to gain insight into your life’s journey. They can help you grasp a better understanding of your inner self, your relationships, and your spiritual path.

At times when you’re feeling anxious, stressed, or a little lost, you can turn to tarot for guidance. Whether you prefer to pull just one card, or three, it’s up to you.

Some people like pulling one card daily to clarify a specific situation. Whereas others prefer to draw three cards that unravel a story. In this case, the first, called pulled, represents the past, the second represents the present, and the third represents the future.

A tarot card reading consists of four basic steps:

  1. Start by identifying a question you want to understand

  2. Then using that question as a guide, choose a tarot spread that corresponds to this

  3. After shuffling the cards, lay them out in the spread you have chosen

  4. Finally, interpret the cards to answer your question

By understanding the symbolism behind each card in the deck, you can gain insight into your current situation or life’s purpose. You can also ask for guidance from the tarot when manifesting desires and pursuing positive changes in your life.

Major Arcana

The Major Arcana consists of 22 cards that represent the archetypal journey of life.

These archetypal symbols represent the different stages of life and how you can learn from them. Common interpretations of each card include themes such as hope, new beginnings, transformation, love, success, and enlightenment. By looking at how each card relates to its corresponding sephirot on the Tree of Life, you can dive deeper into the message it conveys.

Mystical Kabbalah

The Tree of Life closely connects to Tarot as each card in the Major Arcana corresponds to one of the sephirot on the Tree of Life. By looking at this connection, you can dive deeper into the meaning behind each card and ways to interpret it.

The Tree of Life has been a symbol of life for centuries. You’ll find it in many cultures around the world. It’s a map of the Universe composed of 10 nodes and 22 pathways.

Paths connect nodes and represent lessons learned on journeys or the spiritual requirements needed to reach the next node. Together, these 22 paths form the Path of the Serpent; they represent the journey to the divine. In traveling along this path, the serpent undergoes spiritual healing. Applied to your own life, following the Path involves developing one's inner world consciously.

These cards illustrate humanity's spiritual evolution into enlightenment. Symbolically, they represent the soul's return to the divine through self-cultivation.
